The mill behind Foundation's wool
The virgin wool in the Resting Coat and Straight Trouser comes from a single family-run mill, now on its fourth generation of the same family running the looms.
We asked them once, early on, if they could increase a run's speed to meet a deadline. The answer was no, and it was the right answer. The wool's hand — the specific weight and drape that makes the coat fall the way it does — comes directly from how slowly it's woven.
We've since stopped asking. Foundation's production calendar is built around the mill's pace, not the other way around.
