Inside the hand-finished lapel

Most lapels are fused — a layer of adhesive interlining pressed under heat, fast and cheap, and fine for a season. The Resting Coat's lapel is built the slower way: pad-stitched by hand, hundreds of small stitches anchoring the canvas to the wool so the roll of the lapel comes from construction, not a hot press.

The difference is invisible on day one. It shows up later. A fused lapel goes flat over time as the adhesive ages; a hand-finished one keeps its roll because the shape was built in, not stuck on.

We learned this the slow way too. The pattern took three years to settle on before the Resting Coat went into production at all — not because the wool was hard to source, but because the lapel kept telling us it wasn't ready.
